Periodontal Gum Treatment

Our Services

If you have some gum inflammation or bleeding gums, it could be possible that its a symptom of gum disease. Gingivitis or Gum Disease is caused by bacteria forming into plaque and tartar on your teeth which causes the swelling and bleeding. Good dental hygiene such as brushing and flossing regularly can remove plaque but once it forms into tartar, professional cleaning will be required.

If treatment is ignored the gingivitis could worsen into periodontitis where pockets are formed by the gums pulling away from the teeth due to the inflammation. These pockets between the gum and teeth become infected and spread to the bones and tissues that support the teeth causing tooth loss.

What are the treatment options?

• Treatments depend on the level of infection or damage done. We will first perform an evaluation looking at the size of the pockets, swelling and bleeding of gums to see if gum disease is apparent.

• If the damage is minimal, non-surgical treatments such as performing a dental cleaning or deep-cleaning can remove the plaque and tartar attached to your gums and teeth.

• If the disease has spread below the gum lines to the bone and supporting tissue of the tooth, surgical treatments may be required such as flap surgery, bone grafts or soft tissue grafts.
